Operations teams spend their day switching between dashboards, logs, alerts, ticketing systems, and communication tools.
Finding answers often requires navigating multiple screens, while repetitive operational tasks—such as documenting incidents or preparing shift handovers—consume valuable time.
We wanted to explore how AI could reduce this operational overhead while fitting naturally into existing workflows.

Designing the AI Operations Copilot
Designing the AI Operations Copilot
The objective was to make AI feel like a natural extension of the operations team rather than a standalone chatbot. To achieve this, I designed an AI workspace embedded directly within the monitoring platform, allowing users to access insights and complete tasks without leaving their workflow.
The AI Operations Copilot supports users in three key ways:
Conversational Intelligence – Investigate incidents and retrieve operational insights using natural language.
Agentic Workflows – Perform actions such as drafting communications, generating reports, and completing operational tasks with user approval.

Beyond answering questions, the Copilot can take action on the user's behalf, enabling engineers to move from insight to execution without leaving the platform.
For example, a user can ask:
Draft a Microsoft Teams message for the Storage Team regarding the LPAR18 incident.
The Copilot then:
Retrieves the relevant incident context
Drafts the message
Requests user approval
Sends the message upon confirmation
By combining conversational AI with task execution, the Copilot reduces context switching and helps operations teams resolve incidents more efficiently.
